NetLibrary Opens Publisher Relations Office in New York
eBook Provider Hires Trade Publishing Veteran Linda C. Howey
BOULDER, COLO. – June 21, 2000 – NetLibrary Inc., a leading provider of
eBooks and Internet-based content management services, today announced
the opening of a new publisher relations and acquisitions office in New
York. Linda C. Howey, whom NetLibrary recently hired as vice president
of publishing, will oversee the company's New York-based Publisher Relations
office.
"We are pleased to have Linda Howey joining us to head our new branch
office in New York," said NetLibrary Chief Operating Officer Nancy Talmey.
"Linda is well-established in the New York publishing world, she understands
the importance of creating publisher-friendly business models and protecting
publisher content, and she will be a great help to us as we extend our eBook
development, management, and distribution services."
Howey is a 15-year veteran of the trade publishing industry. Prior to joining
NetLibrary, she was vice president, director of national accounts for the
Trade Division of Simon & Schuster Inc. In this position, Howey built a
leading national accounts department with strategic relationships at key
retailers and book distributors. She also spent several years managing
national accounts for Random House Inc. While at Random House, Howey oversaw
national sales growth and headed a task force to strengthen Random House
Electronic Publishing.
"As I have been watching the rapidly growing eBook sector, it has become
clear that NetLibrary has the most compelling offering for all types of
publishers. There is no other company that can provide the breadth of eBook
development and distribution services that NetLibrary offers." said Howey.
"I look forward to working with my numerous contacts in the publishing world
to offer NetLibrary's eBook infrastructure and services."
Howey is joining a team of seasoned publisher relations and acquisitions
staff members at NetLibrary. Miriam Gilbert, senior director of publisher
relations, and Linda Vendryes, senior director of acquisitions, have built
an organization at NetLibrary that has reached agreements with hundreds of
academic, reference, scholarly, and trade publishers. Herb Hilderley, a 25-year
veteran of the textbook publishing industry focuses on acquiring distribution
rights for NetLibrary's MetaText product. Through their collective efforts,
NetLibrary has built an extensive collection of full-text eBooks that are
accessible through libraries and other lending institutions.
"Our senior-level publisher relations and acquisitions staff, and the teams
they have built, represent a broad cross section of publishing, including
expertise in trade, academic, technical and reference, and textbook publishing,"
said Talmey. "With this group in place, I am confident that we will continue
to provide our publishers with the best and broadest services for eBook
distribution."
