Health Communications Inc. Joins NetLibrary to
Offer Life Issues Titles on the Internet
BOULDER, COLO. – March 30, 2000 – NetLibrary™, a leading provider of eBooks
and Internet-based content/collection management services, announced an agreement
today with Health Communications Inc. (HCI) to be the exclusive provider of eBook
versions of the publisher's Chicken Soup for the Soul series for the consumer market.
NetLibrary currently offers more than 20 Chicken Soup series books, including "Chicken
Soup for the Working Soul" and "Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul."
In another non-exclusive agreement with HCI, NetLibrary will provide the
Chicken Soup for the Soul series and more than 100 HCI titles to school,
college, and public libraries.
HCI is the leading U.S. publisher of books on life issues, whose backlist includes
over 30 New York Times best-sellers and other titles on a range of subjects, including
self-help, inspiration, spirituality, teens and families, addictions, recovery,
affirmations and relationships.
HCI eBook titles available to the school and public library market include the best-selling
books "A Child Called It" and "The Lost Boy" both by David Pelzer; "The Schwarzbein
Principle: The Truth About Losing Weight, Being Healthy, and Feeling Younger" by Dianna
Schwarzbein and Nancy Deville; and "Adult Children of Alcoholics" by Janet Garinger Woititz.
Several HCI titles are to be included in NetLibrary's consumer-focused Public Library
eBook Introduction Program, a six-month eBook trial scheduled to roll out this year in
100 public libraries across the United States.
"HCI books have already demonstrated their enormous popular appeal as paper versions,"
said NetLibrary Chief Marketing Officer David Melancon. "We think the eBook versions of
HCI's titles will be among the most highly sought-after titles in our public library
collection. We also expect HCI books, such as those in the Chicken Soup for the Soul
series, to be popular as consumer download eBooks from NetLibrary and as peanutpress.com
versions for handheld computers when they are available."
Through NetLibrary, HCI titles are available to library patrons 24 hours a day, seven
days a week via the Internet. Consumers also can purchase eBooks directly from the NetLibrary
website. NetLibrary eBooks offer advanced search capabilities and the ability to highlight,
bookmark, index, and annotate content.

easily access eBook versions of our print titles whether they're doing research or reading
