BOULDER, Colo. – May 1, 2000 - NetLibraryTM, a leading provider of eBooks and Internet-based content/collection management services, and Glassbook Inc., a leading software provider for secure eBook distribution and high-fidelity eBook readers, today announced plans to make NetLibrary eBooks available to consumers, corporations, and library patrons via Glassbook Reader software.

With this arrangement, NetLibrary will broaden its suite of eBook reading platforms to include PDF-version eBooks. As a result, NetLibrary is in the position of being able to offer eBooks through multiple reading platforms, including desktops and laptops using PDF or non-PDF eBook versions, and a variety of handheld organizers using Palm or Windows CE operating systems.

NetLibrary provides publishers with an infrastructure for the development, management, and distribution of digital eBook content. Through NetLibrary, publishers have an addintional way of reaching consumers through both institutional channels and online retailers, while maintaining digital rights for their content. As a digital collection manager, NetLibrary offers academic, corporate, and public libraries a means of offering eBook collections to their patrons. As a fulfillment agent, NetLibrary offers online booksellers and retailers a way to sell digital content to consumers in multiple eBook reading platforms.

"NetLibrary's longstanding strategy has been to work with publishers to build a solid and growing collection of eBooks, and then to distribute those eBooks to institutions and online retailers in the format their patrons and customers desire," said NetLibrary President and Chief Executive Officer Rob Kaufman. "Glassbook Readers have gained wide acceptance because of their ease of use and flexibility. We are pleased to be making our publishers' content available in this format."

The Glassbook Readers, including the free Glassbook Reader and the advanced Glassbook Plus Reader, are software programs for viewing PDF-version eBooks on a laptop or desktop PC. The Glassbook Readers offer full-color display of eBook pages, searching and bookmarking, and display rotation for laptop computers.

The arrangement calls for NetLibrary eBooks to be made available for the Glassbook Reader at the discretion of publishers who offer their titles through NetLibrary. NetLibrary currently offers more than 18,000 titles from 200 publishers.

"NetLibrary is a leader in the development, management and distribution of electronic books," said Glassbook President Len Kawell. "By implementing this agreement with NetLibrary, we will greatly expand the universe of eBooks available to users of Glassbook Readers."
