NetLibrary eBooks to be Made Available through Glassbook Readers
Agreement gives consumers more choice in growing eBook marketplace
BOULDER, Colo. – May 1, 2000 - NetLibraryTM, a leading provider of
eBooks and Internet-based content/collection management services,
and Glassbook Inc., a leading software provider for secure eBook
distribution and high-fidelity eBook readers, today announced plans
to make NetLibrary eBooks available to consumers, corporations, and
library patrons via Glassbook Reader software.
With this arrangement, NetLibrary will broaden its suite of eBook
reading platforms to include PDF-version eBooks. As a result,
NetLibrary is in the position of being able to offer eBooks
through multiple reading platforms, including desktops and laptops
using PDF or non-PDF eBook versions, and a variety of handheld
organizers using Palm or Windows CE operating systems.
NetLibrary provides publishers with an infrastructure for the
development, management, and distribution of digital eBook
content. Through NetLibrary, publishers have an addintional way of
reaching consumers through both institutional channels and
online retailers, while maintaining digital rights for their
content. As a digital collection manager, NetLibrary offers
academic, corporate, and public libraries a means of offering
eBook collections to their patrons. As a fulfillment agent,
NetLibrary offers online booksellers and retailers a way to
sell digital content to consumers in multiple eBook reading
platforms.

The Glassbook Readers, including the free Glassbook Reader
and the advanced Glassbook Plus Reader, are software programs
for viewing PDF-version eBooks on a laptop or desktop PC. The
Glassbook Readers offer full-color display of eBook pages,
searching and bookmarking, and display rotation for laptop
computers.
The arrangement calls for NetLibrary eBooks to be made
available for the Glassbook Reader at the discretion of publishers
who offer their titles through NetLibrary. NetLibrary currently
offers more than 18,000 titles from 200 publishers.
