NetLibrary and ABC-CLIO Expand eBook Relationship
New Agreement Calls for Distribution of all ABC-CLIO Frontlist Titles
BOULDER, COLO. – November 17, 2000 – NetLibraryTM, the leading provider of eBooks and Internet-based content management services, today announced a new, expanded eBook distribution agreement with award-winning independent reference publisher ABC-CLIO. The agreement will enable NetLibrary's customers in the academic, public, and special library markets to purchase and offer patrons eBook versions of the very latest frontlist titles from ABC-CLIO.
NetLibrary first began digitizing, hosting, and distributing reference content from ABC-CLIO in December 1998. Since then, more than 250 ABC-CLIO books have been created and hosted on NetLibrary's servers for sale to libraries. ABC-CLIO's reference guides on social and environmental issues have been top sellers among NetLibrary's institutional customers.
"As eBooks have become increasingly more sophisticated as research tools, they have begun to change the way we define books and publishing as a whole," said Vince Duggan, vice president of sales and marketing at ABC-CLIO. Their eBook infrastructure has facilitated fine sales results of our best selling Contemporary World Issues and World Bibliographic Series."
The expanded frontlist collection of ABC-CLIO eBooks to be made available through NetLibrary covers topics as diverse as the legacy of the Burger Supreme Court to UFOs and popular culture. NetLibrary will offer a wide range of ABC-CLIO encyclopedias, including reference titles on religion, culture, and focused historical topics, such as the ABC-CLIO Encyclopedia of the Civil War.
