NetLibrary to Distribute and Manage Wiley's Frontlist eBooks
BOULDER, COLO. - October 12, 2000 - NetLibrary Inc., the
leading provider of eBooks and Internet-based content
management services, today announced a new agreement with
John Wiley & Sons Inc. (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb) covering the
creation, distribution, and management of eBooks from 750
new Wiley frontlist titles.
NetLibrary produces, hosts, distributes, and manages eBook
content for more than 350 publishers of academic, reference,
scholarly, and trade books. Working with leading book distributors
such as Blackwell Ltd., EBSCO Publishing, Follett Library Resources,
and Fatbrain.com, NetLibrary has developed eBook sales channels
in the academic, corporate, public, and school library markets.
Today's announcement signals an expansion of the existing alliance
that Wiley and NetLibrary commenced in May 2000. Under the new
agreement, NetLibrary will provide Wiley with fee-based digital
conversion, management, and electronic distribution of eBook titles.
Most immediately, NetLibrary will manage conversion, fulfillment,
and hosting for 750 of Wiley's new frontlist eBook titles. The titles
will be drawn from Wiley's trade and professional business, finance,
computer, psychology, technical, and general interest lists.
"This relationship represents an important step by Wiley to provide our
'must-have' content through a variety of eBook options, including
formats that are copyright protected, user friendly, and commercially
viable," said Mr. Steven Kippur, executive vice president and president,
Professional/Trade Publishing. "Our customers want a wider selection of
titles in a broader range of formats through more sales channels. Our
agreement with NetLibrary allows us to serve customers better and drive
revenue growth."
NetLibrary will convert the eBook titles to a variety of file formats,
including the NetLibrary online and offline readers, oeb, .pdf and, .lit
files. Frontlist titles will be offered in all appropriate eBook formats,
depending upon the typographical complexity and audience for the title.
In addition to providing conversion services, NetLibrary will enable
sell-through of Wiley professional and trade eBook titles through its
multiple distribution channels.
