NetLibrary plans expansion into
100,000-square-foot Boulder campus
Local company forecasts
Internet-paced growth and job expansion
BOULDER, CO- July 19, 1999 -- NetLibrary (www.NetLibrary.com), the world's premiere
provider of electronic books (eBooks) and information over the Internet, today announced
signing a lease for the multi-building campus at 3080, 3085 and 3090 Center Green in Boulder.
The campus formerly housed Career Track and was offered for lease by the TC Boulder Office, LP,
an affiliate of the Trammell Crow Company. The company plans to occupy the space by mid-September.
NetLibrary provides library patrons and consumers anytime, anywhere access to a comprehensive
collection of reference, scholarly, and professional electronic books (eBooks) and information
that can be viewed, searched, and checked out via the Internet. All patrons need is a personal
computer with an Internet browser.
"Our aggressive plan for expansion is right on target," said Tim Schiewe, CEO of NetLibrary.
"In a little less than a year we've gone from 1,200 square feet of space to 18,000 – and now
to this new campus. We've carefully planned this growth to coincide with the rapid evolution
of the NetLibrary offering and business model. The response to what we've brought to market –
from publishers, libraries, investors and consumers – has been phenomenal. This campus will
allow us to continue to meet our growth plans over the coming months."
The NetLibrary growth trajectory has seen the start-up raise both capital and staffing levels
quickly. The company has raised more than $30 million in venture funding and has grown from
eight employees in August 1998 to the current roster of nearly 175. According to Schiewe,
growth plans include additional capital and hundreds of new jobs in the Boulder market.
"Our commitment to the Boulder area is strong, and this long-term lease is proof of that,"
he said. "It's the perfect market in which to build and grow an Internet company."
In leasing the campus – one of the largest in the city of Boulder – NetLibrary was represented
by Lynda Gibbons of Gibbons-White, Inc. Trammell Crow was represented by D. James Sandoz and
Dan Burke.
