Wiley Announces Online Distribution Agreement with NetLibrary
New York, NY May 3, 2000. William J. Pesce, President and Chief Executive Officer of
John Wiley & Sons, Inc., (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb) announced today that Wiley has entered
into an agreement with NetLibrary to provide the online distribution of about 700
Wiley titles.
"The partnership will make Wiley's deep reservoir of 'must-have' content more
accessible to our customers by bringing the library to the desktop," said Mr. Pesce.
"We will be serving our customers better and driving revenue growth."
The Wiley titles will be drawn from its scientific, technical, and medical programs,
as well as its business, finance, computer, psychology, and general interest lists.
Key selections include Savage/The Savage Truth About Money, Block/Flawless
Consulting, 2nd edition, Vogel/Java Programming with CORBA, James/Winning
in the Women's Healthcare Marketplace, and Stern/Pluto and Charon.
NetLibrary has developed the capacity to create electronic versions of print
editions with security features that allow library customers to "lend" titles
for a set time period while safeguarding intellectual property rights through
the restriction of print and copy functions. Patrons benefit from round-the-clock
collection access, with search capability by keyword, phrase, subject, author,
title, or idea. Consumers are provided the option of purchasing eBooks in a variety
of formats for reading on a personal computer or various handheld organizers.
"NetLibrary is pleased to be digitally managing and distributing eBooks for Wiley,"
said NetLibrary Chief Operating Officer Nancy Talmey. "Wiley's eBooks are important
components in the collections we sell to academic, corporate, public, and special libraries."
To make it easier for customers to purchase any of the Wiley titles they access, the
agreement also provides for links to be put in place for all titles to major online
booksellers and for eBooks to be sold through library book distributors.
